For The Love Of Wisdom – Adyashanti – The Known And Unknown

Adyashanti (October 26, 1962 -)

Our human capacity to know and understand gives us an incredible ability to create all manner of things and fathom the workings of the physical universe. And yet, this same capacity has its shadow side that is not so obvious. The ability to know and create can also be an incredibly destructive force, not only to other beings and the environment, but also psychologically in terms of one’s subjective experience of being. Psychologically speaking, the known is the creator of many of the conditioned, repetitive patterns of suffering that humans experience day-to-day, as well as the myriad ways that we attempt to avoid suffering by endlessly interpreting our experience, both past and present.

Beyond the known, as opposed to prior to it, lies a realm of being that pulls suffering out by its very roots and opens the door to a whole new way of experiencing life. Be forewarned though, this new dimension of being is so radically different from what we are used to, that we tend to defend against it with every fiber of our being. Nonetheless, it is the dharma gate to liberation.
