Sunrise On A New Year
Another year, another journey via an elliptical orbit around a yellow star in a solar system named the Milky Way.
Although there is no spiritual difference between December 31st and January 1st, each year at this time I find myself preparing for a new beginning. The start of a new year. An opportunity to do things differently perhaps than I did before, to try new recipes for living and to contribute however I can to making life better for those with whom I share this planet. The New Year is an opportunity to re-access my place in the universe and to make adjustments accordingly. A new beginning of hopes held together with the events and memories of a lifetime. It is also a time to remember those who are no longer making this journey along side me. For auld lang syne.
It is the philosopher Seneca (c. 4 BC – AD 65) who gently reminds me:
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.
And like the circle an ellipse has no beginning nor end. Each is a continuum. Each point I call a beginning is also an end. Each is the center of the Universe. Each point is happening right now! Happy New Year!
